[Why would there be any conflict in that, he sure doesn't expect any. Is it even contrast when it's just sweet? There's nothing about those feelings that are a surprise, it's exactly what he expects out of this. Because he's the same in reverse, with the fear there, but near completely overwritten by love that's both gentle and intense in its neediness.
